Haaye ve saadhu sama ha zaalam

Haaye ve saadhu sama ha zaalam, Kistaran preet nibhavaan ve.
Oh Guru, the times are so cruel—how can I continue to carry this love?

Your human form is no longer visible to me. I cry out endlessly in my pain.

There’s no place left for me on this earth—where shall I go to pass my days?

No one resonates with your name—where can I sit and sing of you?

I have no one but you. I call out to you, always and endlessly.

Haaye ve peera tere kaaran, Maat tie dukhre paanva ve.
Because you’ve left me in this world, my soul is drenched in sorrow.

Tu vi chhod ke menu tur gayon, Das mein kidar jaanva ve.
Even you abandoned me—tell me now, where should I go?

My days and nights pass in deep sighs and tears—I cry constantly in your absence.

No one tells me where you are—where do I even begin to search?

Saadhu saadhu payi pukaraan, Karke uchiyan baanhva ve.
I cry “Sadhu, Sadhu,” with my hands raised high—completely helpless.

Sunn le hun taan vaaj meri tu, Haaye peer bulanva ve.
Please listen now—I’m calling out to you, my beloved Guru.

Naam di lajeya rakh le saadhu, Zaalam same sataanva ve.
Guru, honor the dignity of your name—this harsh separation is breaking me apart.

Vich udeekaan meri guzri, Baitha aas lagaanva ve.
My time is spent waiting for you—clinging to the hope that you might return.

When will my Guru return—so I can leave this world and go with him?

This world holds no embrace for my soul—how is a prisoner of love meant to survive?

Please don’t look at my faults, my Guru—I offer myself to you completely.

There’s no end to your greatness—I can never repay the grace you’ve given me.

O Sardar, please don’t delay any longer—this wait feels like lifetimes. Put an end to it.
